OTTAWA RHP Jordan Kurokawa (W, 2-3) posted another gem start for the Ottawa Champions, leading Ottawa past the Hollywood Stars in the second game of the series 7-3.
He tossed seven full innings of shutout baseball, limiting the Stars to just three hits while striking out nine batters. The Hawaii native is the best statistical pitcher on the Champions, even including his first start in which he allowed seven earned runs over 1.1 innings of work.
"He has had three or four really good starts in a row," Champions manager Hal Lanier said about his starter. "He had great stuff he had command of all his pitches, and spotted the ball well."
Lanier said he didnt want Kurokawa to be overworked, so he didnt have him throw over 100 pitches. In each of his last three starts he has recorded more than six innings pitched.
Offensively, the Champions leaned on INF Steve Nyisztor, who hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. OF Steve Brown and DH Sebastien Boucher teamed up for the go-ahead run in the fifth, when Brown doubled home the Gatineau, Que. native.
The Champions will get back into action tomorrow night in the final game of a three-game tango with the Hollywood Stars. RCGT Parks Thursday night tradition continues at the end of this series, with another $1 HOT DOG NIGHT. Tickets can be found at www.ottawachampions.com or by calling 613-745-2255.
