6/2/2011-The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce the Carlsbad Bats will be playing a home series in Carlsbad, NM. June 19th the Carlsbad Bats will host the Alpine Cowboys at 4:05 PM and 7:05 PM in Carlsbad at Caveman Baseball Field. 3000 West Church Street. Carlsbad NM 88210. The Carlsbad Bats of the Pecos League will serve as the home team in Carlsbad, NM. The Alpine Cowboys will serve as the road team. This is the closest road game Alpine has ever played in the 3 year history of their team and is an ideal location for this series and a potential for a Pecos League Team in 2012.
"The Pecos League is off to a solid start and in 2012 we are looking to add two markets. Carlsbad is supposedly the baseball capital of New Mexico, and the Pecos League is a professional baseball league based in New Mexico. One who would think the community would support an independent Professional Baseball Team." says Andrew Dunn Commisioner of the Pecos League. "Finally a game where we bat last, and we get to see Carlsbad the place we are trying to represent" says Jay Acton General Manager of the New York State League. "This is our closest road trip ever" says Bob Ward who has been involved with the Alpine Cowboys since their rebirth in 2009. Carlsbad is the central point of the Pecos League on the map. The Pecos League named the travel team "Carlsbad Bats" for the 2011 season in hopes of having the team stationed and practicing out of Carlsbad. There were questions in the 2011 season about field availability in Carlsbad. So the team had Spring Training in Houston and is currently stationed in Las Cruces. July 1 the team will move to Roswell.
The Carlsbad Potashers last played in 1961 in the same footprint as the current Pecos League. They played against Alpine and Roswell in the Longhorn League. Much has changed since 1961 but some things are still the same.
This is one of several neutral site series the Pecos League will play this season. Carlsbad New Mexico is located in Eddy county, 165 miles East of El Paso on Highway 62.
The Pecos River travels through Carlsbad.
