Questions for John
#1 How do you plan on winning and competing in the Pecos League?
1. As this new experience approaches me, I know I am taking on a huge responsibility. These kinds of leagues are pretty much the real deal. It's where decisions need to be made without a blink. The competition level is greater than most of these guys have ever played. In the short Spring Training days, my focus is to mold the best group of players together and see where they fit best to play as a team. It'll be a tough job to win games, but every Coach has some sort of advantage. In order to win games, my players will need to be mentally and physically prepared, come ready to play, and have fun. Hopefully it all works out in the end to a successful season.
#2 Have you ever been to Texas/New Mexico? How do you plan on making adjustment to altitude?
2. I have never been to Texas/New Mexico. With the high altitudes being a factor, I understand that I need to adjust quickly. Balls will be flying out of the park I suppose, but that will be a learning experience. 3 months is long enough to change the way I do things in order to make some sort of adjustment, so we will see.
#3 What is your overall expectations of Bats?
3. As a travel team in the Pecos League, The Carlsbad Bats will be the underdogs. We have new players on a new team, and in a new place. Modifications will have to be made by everyone. As the road team, we wouldn't have the advantage of a home crowd, or batting last to win a game. It's the challenge that everyone faces, but also what makes the game so great. If we play together, teamwork will pay off.
