11/12/2012-If the Pecos League goes with 10 teams Raton with be the 10th.
After the major trainwreck of confusion and proposal for Trinidad and Raton to share a team failed. Trinidad has made clear they want their own team and don't want to share with anyone especially Raton. Fans voiced major concerns over the proposed Trinidad-Raton Triggers merger. Raton wants their own team.
Despite their small population and small economy, Raton would be the perfect city for the 10th Pecos League team in 2013. Location and Timing appear to be perfect for the most Northern City in New Mexico. Gabriele Field is absolutely beautiful. Great surface, beautiful setting and good lights are all major positives for Raton. The idea of sharing a team with Trinidad didn't get very far on either side of the Border. It didn't take long to have the coal bucket football game explained to you that it was a horrible idea to merge the two cities. Raton is New Mexico and Trinidad is Colorado for a reason.
Raton and Trinidad don't like to share anything and will be immediate rivals should both cities actually get teams in the 2013 season. Many people originally thought it would be too much baseball in the same area and the Triggers and Osos will fight for the same fans. Not true, in fact one team could promote the other.
A nine team schedule is impossible, logistically and for competitive balance.
As expected on 11/13 Pecos will be the 9th team in the league and Raton will be the 10th.
Raton has been very welcoming to the Pecos League in 2011 and 2012 Raton welcomed the Pecos League with open arms.
Location, Location, Location, Raton is ideal for the final Northern Division Team.
With higher hotel costs and a need for a 5th team in the Northern Divison Raton is perfect. It is 107 miles to Las Vegas, 95 miles to Taos, 21 miles to Trinidad and 174 miles to Santa Fe.
Bringing the proud Pecos League tradition of the "Osos" North to Raton will be great for the Pecos League,Raton and the entire Northern Division.
