Sioux Falls, SD � The Sioux Falls Canaries walked-off to beat the Salina Stockade, 8-7, in 11 innings at Sioux Falls Stadium on Sunday in front of a crowd of 3,016.The Stockade took the early lead against Troy Marks and the Canaries with a run in the top of the second before the Birds came right back in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. Chris Jacobs leadoff single and Patrick Fialas walk put runners on first and second for Blake Schmit, who knocked in both with a two-run single. The Birds would load the bases later in the frame, but theyd leave them loaded against Salinas Josh Hodges, one of the three times the Canaries left the bases loaded on Sunday.
Burt Reynolds two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth extended the Birds lead to 4-1, but Marks ran into some trouble in the next inning and the Stockade took the lead.
Salina sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the fifth against Marks and James Jones, scoring four runs on four hits, including three on Jimmy Hecks bases-clearing double.
The Stockade took a one-run lead into the sixth, but Fiala came home on Trey Vavras fly out to tie the game at five.
Neither team scored in the eighth, but the Stockade scored two in the top of the ninth against Nicco Blank and Andrew Woeck to take a 7-5 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, Chris Jacobs doubled with one out and scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to one before the Birds loaded the bases for Brett Marr. Marr hit what looked to be the final out of the inning, but an error allowed the Canaries to tie the game at seven.
Both teams went scoreless in the tenth and Jose Ortega worked a scoreless eleventh inning before the Canaries came up to bat in the bottom of the 11th inning.
Vavras leadoff walk put the game-winning run on base, and he moved to second on Aaron Gretz sacrifice. Dan Motls hit-by-pitch put two runners with two outs for Reynolds, who laced a double over the head of Roche Woodard in centerfield to give the Canaries an 8-7 victory.
Reynolds finished the day a triple shy of the cycle, 3-for-6 with a double, home run and three RBI. Four Birds finished the day with three hits as the Canaries totaled 8 runs on 15 hits.
Ortega picks up the win for the Canaries who move to 40-45, equaling last seasons win total with the victory. Alhanon Miller takes the loss for the Stockade, who drop to 16-69.
Following an off day on Monday, the Canaries will open a four-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Sioux Falls Stadium, starting with a doubleheader Tuesday night at 6:05 PM. RHP Miles Nordgren (5-6, 4.35 ERA) will take the hill for the Canaries in game one of the doubleheader against the RedHawks.
