9/21/2012-The Pecos League may run into a Blizzard in Taos
Taos New Mexico wants a team in Pecos League in 2013. Their location, elevation and community will fit right into Pecos League culture.
They would be immediate rivals with Santa Fe. They would be 117 miles to Trinidad and 65 miles to Santa Fe.
The Pecos League is currently in process of attempting to add two teams for the 2013 season and break the league into a Northern and Southern Division.
Pueblo is looking less like an option every day which leaves very few options in the Northern Division.
Taos New Mexico is a skiing town located directly in between Santa Fe and Trinidad off of Highway 64.
The location would be ideal for a Pecos League Team in the Northern Division.
Taos would only be able to host around 20 home games in its inaugural year as the lights would not be installed in time for the season.
Taos would sell beer and have ample time to promote their team, find host families and gather sponsorships for the team.
Unlike Ruidoso in 2011 the League would own and operate the team.
This would not be as bad of a problem with other Pecos League Teams starving for more home games.
"We have wanted Pro Baseball in Taos for several years. The Pecos League would be great for Taos and we will make it working. The timing is right this year." says Marty Remaly.
Marty is the driving force for bringing Professional Baseball to Taos, he has been instrumental in the creation of the Taos Ecopark and believes baseball would be great in Taos.
Marty witnessed first hand the steps the Pecos League had to go through to get baseball in Santa Fe and doesn't believe there will be any resistance in Taos should the Pecos League move forward in 2013.
The Blizzard could have Spring Training in Houston or Alamogordo if Taos is unavailable for Spring Training.
In the Santa Fe City Council Meeting in 2011 Marty Remaly and Norm Cutliff attended the hearing in hopes of having the 6th Pecos League Team land in Taos not Santa Fe. The Santa Fe Fuego won the hearing and Taos was put on hold for another year. Lights were not installed but Taos is building a 2nd baseball field which would open the Primary field up for pro ball even more.
The Pecos League plans to visit Taos on 9/24/2012.
