The Coastal Kingfish are a baseball team owned by Coastal Baseball in Houston. The Kingfish were founded as a last second travel team in the Contintenal Baseball League in 2009 when the Dallas Aviators withdrew two days before the season. Many players got their first start with the Kingfish.
The team had two days to assemble a team before their 2009 opener in Alpine Texas. The team was named Coastal Kingfish because the team was possibly going to have a home in Louisiana. The teams colors were red, white and blue because of the late notice players have equipment in all variety of colors. This prevent players with red spikes or blue spikes being out of place. The team went 9-58 and at one point lost 24 straight games. Their roster was not paid and their opponents were. The famous Kingfish hats were acquired from Budget Sporting Goods who had stock leftover from the Montreal Expos. The Kingfish actually wore Houston Apollos Jerseys for their series as their jerseys were not ready. The Kingfish played the 2010 season in El Paso, Texas as the final travel team of the Continental Baseball Leauge before the league completely folded. The team kept alot of its players and became the White Sands Pupfish. They were renamed the Pupfish by Matt McNeile. The Pupfish still play in Alamogordo today. The Pupfish changed their colors to New Orleans Saints colors.
The CB logo was far from dead. In 2011 the CB logo and hats of the Kingfish went to the Carlsbad Bats http://www.CarlsbadBats.com. They served one year as the travel team.
From 2012 forward The Coastal Kingfish became the primary developmental team for the Pecos League. In 2012 they were founding members of the Pecos Spring League. They had one team and played in the Coastal Baseball League. They have played in the Coastal Baseball League ever since. The Kingfish are the only Pecos Spring League team that has had more than one manager. They have had a wide array of managers many of which was their first managing job.
In the fall of 2016 the Kingfish went to NYC Metro Area where they played in the Hudson River League.
