Meet Rod Tafoya of the Santa Fe Fuego
5/21/2012-When you look at rosters in the Pecos League you see lots of fresh faces with many recent graduates or players released from Pro Ball. There are some veterans who are mixed into the league that are in the late 20's. After taking a glance at the roster of the Santa Fe Fuego you see Rodney Tafoya at 48 years old and he is currently in the starting rotation for the Fuego. When you first glance at Rodney you really can't tell his age.
Rodney is a local legend in Northern New Mexico where he has dominated every level of ball he can find. He has won and counted 271 wins in his career. He has an accomplished and well followed website http://www.rodtafoya.com Currently Rodney has started two of the three games that the Fuego have won, although he has not registered a win. Rodney's experience with extreme altitude of Santa Fe has allowed him to be one of Santa Fe's most consistant starters. Rodney has traveled the world playing baseball. Rodney signed two affliated contracts in his lifetime. In 1989 with the Boise Hawks and in 1990 with the Erie Sailors. He pitched in Juarez Mexico when it was safe to cross the border in 1984-1985. Rodney has pitched in every MSBL Tournament in North America. If the Fuego weren't in Santa Fe he would be traveling across the country chasing tournaments to pitch in. Rodney was instrumental in the hearing in favor of the Pro Baseball coming to Santa Fe. He started opening day at Fort Marcy Park in front of a packed house. Bill Moore is excited to have Rodney Tafoya on the Santa Fe Fuego. Andrew Dunn is excited to have Rodney Tafoya pitch in the Pecos League. Rodney has pitched in Alamogordo and Santa Fe and plans to pitch in all six ball parks before the season is complete. when you see the lefty for Santa Fe wearing number 32 you know you will have a competitor on the mound that night for the Fuego.
