5/1/2012-Spring Training Updates from the Pecos League.
The Trinidad Triggers opened camp on 4/30/2012 with large attendence and support. Their ballpark is in good shape as TSJC is completing their season.
Justin Lowery and JD Droddy welcomed their first ever Spring Training camp. The Triggers are being lead offensively in scrimmages by Andrew Riddick, Chris Wakefield and Rob Hermann.
Luis Pardo, Miguel Hernandez and Evan Ellison. The extreme cold weather has shocked many of the east coast players with temps dropping into the 40's in the night.
The Roswell Invaders opened their season with a huge tailgate party and had a strong showing from players. The City of Roswell has installed netting to prevent faul balls from leaving.
"We are learning the lay of the land says coach Simon Walters.
The Las Cruces Vaqueros have had a mixed start to Spring Training, Casey Dill's team is coming together well. The City of Las Cruces has decided not to allow the Vaqueros to use their game field during Spring Training. One of the players wore Spikes on the field and this is against City Policy for practices.
This put the Vaqueros at a local high school field and makes practicing very tough. "We are in a disadvantage situation and the City does not care, they see the Vaqueros differently then other cities do. It is tough on us trying to get ready for the season."
The Vaqueros and Pupfish scrimmage each other tommorow in Alamogordo.
The White Sands Pupfish are ready to unveil their new state of the art facility. They have reseeded grass, new stands, new scoreboard and new clubhouse.
Players are staying in the new Rite House for Spring Training and camp is going well. Chris Paterson has picked up many of the Yuma Panthers team from the North American League.
The Santa Fe Fuego players have been shocked by the high altitude military training Head Coach Bill Moore is putting them through. He is requiring pitchers to run 3 foul poles for every batter they walk in Spring Training.
The Fuego have two left handed two way stars Evan Kohli, Justin Trejo. Rodney Tafoya has provided leadership and altitude advise for the players just coming to the 7000 foot elevation.
The City of Santa Fe has finally woke up, completely redoing the infield, outfield and mound. The ballpark and team are beginning to come together.
The Alpine Cowboys start May 2.
