The Cuban Dream Team known as FepCube defeated the Houston Apollos 2-0 at University of Miami in Coral Gables. This game was dominated by pitching on both sides. The scoring came from a 2nd inning solo home run from Leonys Martin off of Edilson Alvarez. The Cubans struck again in the third inning when Victor Mesa drove in Luis Medina with a single.
The Houston Apollos pitching staff had 12 strikeouts in 8 innings of work. Edilson Alvarez threw 3 innings allowing two runs while striking out four. Jose Rodriguez (Cuban Native) threw two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Ben Kowalski threw a scoreless inning with one strikeout. Ruddy Gomez threw a scoreless 7th striking out all three batters that he faced. Jestin Jones throw a scoreless 8th with two strikeouts. The Houston Apollos did not walk a batter.
For Cuba former World Series Champion Jose Contereas started on the mound pitching one scoreless inning. Former Miami Marlins pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne threw a scoreless 2nd inning. Pedro Echemendia threw the 3rd inning. Anthony Perez threw a scoreless 4th inning. Wily Gatson threw the 5th inning. Cuban Legend Eddie Oropesa pitched the 6th inning getting a huge double play to get out of the inning. Francisley Bueno and Elih Villanueva split the 7th inning. Jordan Noval threw a scoreless 8th. Rafael Vazquez started the 9th but walked two batters, Raidel Orta came in to get the last out.
With the win FepCube ended its campaign with a 2-0 record, they also defeated Miami Dade Junior College 3-2.Both the Houston Apollos and FepCube were scheduled to goto Colombia and play in the InterContential Series from January 24-Feb 2. This series was canceled due to issues with the Cuban Government and Colombian Government.
Former World Series MVP Livan Hernandez threw out the first pitch to Houston Apollos Cuban Pitcher Cheche Rodriguez.
