The Pecos League will feature sixteen teams in the 2023 season. 2023 will mark the 13th season of Pecos League Baseball. There are two divisions in the Pecos League a Mountain Division and a Pacific Division.The Mountain Division consists of the original Pecos League Teams:(Roswell Invaders, Alpine Cowboys, Santa Fe Fuego, Trinidad Triggers, Garden City Wind, Tucson Saguaros, Blackwell Flycatchers and Austin Weirdos). The Roswell Invaders and Alpine Cowboys have been in the Pecos League since inception in 2011. The Santa Fe Fuego and Trinidad Triggers took the field one year later in 2012. The Pecos League moved to Kansas with the Garden City Wind in 2015.
2016 marked the first time the Tucson Saguaros were in the Pecos League. The Saguaros have rotated back and forth from Pacific Division to Mountain Division since inception forming rivalries with Bakersfield and Roswell along the way. 2022 was the first season of the Austin Weirdos. In 2023 the Weirdos will move into a reconfigured Govalle Park that will feature home run nets. The lone expansion team in the Mountain Division is the Blackwell Oklahoma Flycatchers. Named after the Oklahoma State Bird, 2023 will be the first season of independent baseball in Oklahoma since the 1950's
The Mountain Divison uses 1/2 league issued umpires and 1/2 local umpires. Local umpires are assigned from Colorado Springs, Oklahoma City, Garden City, Austin and Alpine. Tucson, Roswell, Santa Fe and Trinidad did not use local umpires.The Mountain Division is setup to play three or four game series and will begin Spring Training on May 22.The Regular season begins on May 31. Four teams from the Mountain Division qualify for the playoffs.
The Pacific Division consists entirely of teams from California:(Bakersfield Train Robbers, Dublin Leprechuans, Lancaster Sound Breakers, Martinez Sturgeon, Marysville Drakes, Monterey Amberjacks, San Rafael Pacifics, Vallejo Seaweed). The top four teams will qualify for the playoffs. The Pecos League first moved into California in 2017 with the Bakersfield Train Robbers and Monterey Amberjacks playing their inaugural year. The regular season in the Pacific Division starts May 26.
Lancaster will play Friday and Saturday Nights in the Hangar. They will host all Pacific Division Teams for one series and host Bakersfield three series. They will make three road trips North to play the Bay Area Teams.
Bakersfield will continue their tradition of hosting Monday Night $1 beer/$1 ticket/$1 hot dog nights as well as their traditional schedule.
Monterey Amberjacks will return to their Friday/Saturday/Sunday home game schedule.Dublin will only host home games on Tuesday nights. San Rafael, Martinez, Vallejo and Marysville will play traditional commuter schedules where they don't play series and they rotate opponents and home and away daily. The only overnight stays will occur when Bakersfield or Lancaster plays or hosts a Bay Area Team.The entire Pacific Division uses league umpires with a crew based in the Bay Area, Santa Clarita and Bakersfield.
The winners of the two divisions will meet at an undetermined location for the Pecos League Championship Series.
