edison alvarez came up big at the dish and on the mound, leading the Houston Apollos (4-0) to a 5-1 win over the Garden of Gears on Tuesday at Christy Park.

Alvarez was hot from the plate for the Houston Apollos. Alvarez went 2-2, drove in one and scored one run. He doubled in the third innings and singled in the sixth inning.

The Garden of Gears (1-3) had no answer for alvarez, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Garden of Gears managed just one hit off of the the Houston Apollos pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out nine during his four innings of work.

bristan clingman was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 3 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out four, and allowed four runs.
