Bill Moore has announced his retirement from the Pecos League

Bill Moore has announced his retirement from the Pecos League as a manager. Moore ends his managing career with a record of 274-233.
"I enjoyed it every step of the way. The League has progressed every year...

Bill began his Pecos League Managing career in Santa Fe as the inaugural Santa Fe Fuego Manager. After going 23-47 in 2012, Moore turned the Fuego into contenders going 36-31 in his second year in 2013.
2014 proved to be the best year ever for the Santa Fe Fuego. The Fuego won their only Pecos League Championship going 48-24. This was Moore"s most successful season. In 2015 the Fuego made a return to trip to the finals were they lost to Roswell.

In 2016 Moore connected with the Garden City Wind were the Wind won the Northern Division Regular season title going 38-26. The Wind lost to Trinidad in the playoffs. In 2017 Bill moved to Bakersfield to be the inaugural manager of the Train Robbers. The team qualified for the playoffs where they lost to High Desert. In 2018 Moore returned home to manage Tucson where the Saguaros won the Pacific Division Regula

January 9, 2021 and January 10, 2021. Great tournament in off season and a way to be with countrymen. Each team will play all other teams and team with best record will be crowned Champion.

Current Pecos League Adjudicator JD Droddy has reached an agreement to provide music for upcoming HBO Production. The Former Trinidad Triggers, Tucson Saguaros and Salina Stockade Manager has struck again in the Entertainment Industry. After being a reality star in the Pecos League Documentary on Fox he has made a deal with his music.

Below is JD Droddy"s Release: "BIG NEWS: My music will be in an upcoming movie -- I am pleased to announce today that a portion of my Native American Flute piece, "Warriors’ Mourning Song," will appear as cue/background music in an upcoming movie produced by award winning producer Raoul Peck. The movie is titled "Exterminate All The Brutes." The movie will premiere (probably in 2021) in theaters in New York and Los Angeles, which is being done so it can qualify for consideration for the Oscars. After that it will be run by HBO, which actually commissioned the film. THIS IS THE LARGEST LICENSE AGREEMENT I HAVE EVER MADE FOR ANY OF MY MUSIC.

NO DESIGNATED HITTER IN PECOS LEAGUE

Despite the ire that it raises among its many dedicated opponents, use of the designated hitter has spread to most baseball organizations. You’ll find it in leagues from the high-school level and up. Even in some youth leagues.

But not in the Pecos League … not since 2011, its first season of operation. The only time a Designated Hitter was used in the Pecos League was in the 2nd half of the 2012 season. But it was removed from 2013 and has never been used since.

The arguments for and against are pretty standard.

Proponents say that it increases offense by taking a (usually) weak-hitting pitcher out of the lineup and provides additional roster flexibility. Managers can rotate the DH role among part-time players or they can employ a full-time designated hitter against all pitchers. It also allows them to give a healthy everyday player a partial day off, or to give an injured player the opportunity to bat without having to play in the field. It also means a player who is a poor fielder and/or old enough that he is no longer ef

The Spring League will be its 10th year of operation in 2021.

The Spring League has served 100s players as a spring board to their summer independent playing opportunities within the Pecos League.

The Milwaukee Brewers waited until the final day to punch their ticket to the MLB Wild Card Round where they will be the 8 seed vs the Los Angeles Dodgers. Former Trinidad Triggers pitcher Eric Yardley had a great year out of the bullpen for the Brewers. Yardley lead the team in apperences with 24. He held a 1.54 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP with 19 strikeouts and 19 hits allowed in 23.1 innings pitched. Yardley established himself as an option out of the Brewers Bullpen.

The Tucson Saguaros are 2020 Pecos League Champions. The Saguaros defeated the Salina Stockade 2 games to 0 and finished the season 26-4. The Pecos League completed the entire season in Houston in the most difficult circumstances, ending two days before Category 3 Hurricane Laura is scheduled to land on shore. Also season teams battled the constant threat of COVID virus. But the number one enemy was the Day games played in middle of the Houston Summers on Turf.

The Salina Stockade defeated the Ro

The Salina Stockade defeated the Roswell Invaders in the Wild Card Game to advance to the Pecos League Championship Series. Awaiting the Stockade is a familiar foe in the Salina Stockade. The two teams played 10 times and the Tucson Saguaros won 6 of the 10 meetings. The four games that Salina won were the only four games that Tucson lost the entire season.

Tucson will likely use the following starters Ryan Porras, Cody Earl and Erwin Real. Salina will likely use Tommy Giunta, Jacob Williams and Ben Butler.

Both teams have wide open offenses and it will be a great series. With two hurricanes at the same time in the Gulf of Mexico heading straight for Houston, it is possible that Tuesday will be a doubleheader. Both games would be 9 inning games.

Matt Cronin will start for the Roswell Invaders. Cronin was 3-2 with 24 1/3 innings pitched for the Invaders. He struck out 27 and walked 12. He was the United Shore League Pitcher of the Year. He is from Framingham, MA

Mark Simon will start for the Salina Stockade. Simon pitched in 3 games logging 6.2 innings striking out 13 while only allowing 1 hit. He is from Cypress, Texas and pitched in the Mexican Major Leagues for Rieleros de Aguascalientes. He played college baseball at Texas Tech and Oklahoma City University.

Rod Tafoya is old enough to have retired from his career as a banking executive, but his baseball career just keeps going, and going . . . and going.

When the 56-year-old lefthander takes the mound for Salina in a Pecos League game August 7, he’ll be going for the 450th win in a career that began in the Mexican winter league in 1986, wound through a couple of years in the U.S. minor leagues and then many more in semi-pro and Mexican and independent U.S. pro leagues.

“I go where the games are,” he said.

For him, the games have been all over the U.S. map, plus Mexico. He last was in North Carolina in mid-July pitching – and winning – for the East Coast Weekenders in the Old North State League.

Yermin Mercedes has been called up to the active Major League Roster and is set to make his major league debut with the Chicago White Sox. Mercedes spent the entire 2014 season in the Pecos League with the Douglas Diablos and White Sands Pupfish.

Mercedes was signed as a free agent by the Baltimore Orioles and then drafted as a minor league Rule 5 free agent by the White Sox after leading his Orioles minor league teams in many offensive categories.

In 2019 between Between the AA Birmingham Barons and AAA Charlotte Knights last season, Mercedes hit .317 with 19 doubles, 23 home runs, and 80 RBI in 95 games. He also accumulated four home runs with nine RBI before spring training activities were suspended. The 5-foot-11, 235 pound Mercedes ranked among the organizational leaders in slugging percentage (2nd, .581), average (3rd), home runs (3rd), RBI (3rd), and on-base percentage (3rd, .388)

[BILL ROGAN STORY] By Carter Cromwell With entries for ballplayer, coach, radio/TV announcer, sports talk-show host, author, front-office employee and manager, Bill Rogan’s resume is hardly one of the monolithic, straight-from-A-to-Z variety – albeit with the common thread of baseball running throughout it.

“I’ve been flexible enough to try a lot of different things,” he acknowledged recently after a day doing play-by-play for Pecos League games in Houston. “Luckily, I’ve been able to be involved with baseball in almost everything I’ve done.”

At the moment, Rogan’s role is that of play-by-play announcer for the Pecos League games taking place in Houston. Rogan, who managed the league’s Tucson team last season, had been slated to manage the Santa Fe entry in 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic forced the league to eliminate much of the schedule and take four teams to Houston and play a shortened schedule over July and August.

When professional baseball returned to Tucson in 2016 in the form of the Tucson Saguaros, the core fan base was happy. What some could not get used to was the team logo an image of a saguaro cactus with a vertical trunk and an arm stretching horizontally across it.

"People thought it was terrible, said Pecos League commissioner Andrew Dunn. Ive probably done 35 team logos in conjunction with a consultant, and almost all of them have been well received. But this one did not get good reviews initially. I had a friend with the (San Diego) Padres who said it looked like a cross like a religious symbol.

Dunn said that a lot of people wanted him to revive the nickname and logo of the Toros, the team in Tucson from 1969-2011.

But, Saguaros it was. And guess what? In time, its become the most popular logo in the Pecos League, even more so than those of teams in Santa Fe and Roswell, NM.

While specific figures are unavailable, Dunn estimates that Tucson sells 50% more caps alone than the next-best seller. He estimates about the same difference for t-shirts and jerseys, as well.

If nothing else, the saguaro cactus is appropriate as the Tucson teams logo, since its emblematic of the arid region in which Tucson is situated. The largest cactus in the United States, it is one of the defining plants of the Sonoran Desert and is found exclusively there.

The plants are large, tree-like columnar cacti that develop branches (or arms) as they age, although some never grow them. Arms increase the plants reproductive capacity, as they lead to more flowers and fruit. The arms generally bend upward. Saguaros can grow to between 10 and 50 feet tall and be as large as 30 inches in diameter.

Saguaros are covered with protective spines, which are very strong and may cause significant injury to animals. There was one report of a bighorn sheep skull being penetrated by a spine after the sheep collided with a saguaro. The spines can also cause severe injury to humans, being as sharp and nearly as strong as steel needles.

The saguaro has white flowers in the late spring and red fruit in summer. Given the proper growing conditions, it is estimated that this particular cactus can live to between 150 and 200 years old.

After the saguaro dies, its woody ribs can be used to build roofs, fences, and parts of furniture. The holes that birds nested in - saguaro boots - can be found among the dead saguaros. Native Americans used these as water containers long before canteens were available. The ribs can also be used as livestock fodder.

A saguaro can absorb and store considerable amounts of rainwater, visibly expanding in the process, while slowly using the stored water, as needed. This characteristic enables the saguaro to survive during periods of drought. When rain is plentiful and the saguaro is fully hydrated, it can weigh between 3,200 and 4,800 pounds.

The Pecos League began a new season on June 20, and the opening took place at a ballpark that had a new atmosphere.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the league has taken five of its Eastern Division teams, condensed the season into two months and is playing all the games at the Coastal Baseball Park in Houston. And anyone familiar with the facility could be forgiven for not recognizing it right off the bat.

The ballpark has undergone a major makeover over the last several months, including:

New turf
A new batting eye in centerfield
A 12-foot fence
A re-worked infield
New bullpen areas
Significant work on the parking areas

It was a three-month project and involved a ton of labor, said Andrew Dunn, the Pecos League commissioner and owner of the facility. In the current environment, there is no other park in which we can play no other place to go.

Dunn purchased the land from Freeway Baptist Church and opened the ballpark in 2007. The facility is situated on 17 acres in the most southern portion of the City of Houston/Harris County. The property has two fields, which enables the league to play more games in a day and, thus, condense its season into a shorter time frame.

Coastal Baseball Park hosted its first game in May 2008. Originally, the park featured an artificial mound, but this was replaced 2009 with one of clay. The design was for artificial turf on the infield and a natural-grass outfield that needed little maintenance. The turf on the original infield was from the University of Arkansas football practice field in Little Rock.

Weve replaced that now with the turf from Baylor Universitys football field, Dunn said.

Coastals second field opened for the 2010 season and has the old Cincinnati Reds MLB outfield fence. The field was resurfaced in 2014.

We have one of the few Batters Eyes in the Houston area, Dunn said. This gives hitters great visibility.

Dimensions of the main field are 323 (left field), 409 (center field) and 307 (right field). In addition to the Pecos League, numerous Houston Area teams from the Continental League (2009) and Hudson River League (2018) have used the facility. Several Houston Astros players used the facility to film their sponsorship ad campaigns.

This years refurbishing was not the first for the ballpark. Coastal Park has had many major upgrades previously, including installation of a clay mound that meets major-league specifications, brick dugouts, a brick backstop, addition of speakers, addition of brick walkways and batting cage.

The new ballpark is hosting the Trinidad (CO) Triggers, Santa Fe (NM) Fuego, Roswell (NM) Invaders, Tucson (AZ) Saguaros and Salina (KS) Stockade. Except for off days on Tuesdays, there will be games each day until near the end of August.

We really needed to get going and play, Dunn said, and we made sure the ballpark was ready.

The Entire Mountain Division of the

With the current situation it will be impossible for the Pecos League to utilize host families and renew sponsors required to operate a season.

The Pecos League will create a central division and play the 2020 season with five teams:

Games will be in Houston, Texas with opening day being July 1, 2020. Teams will play a 36 game regular season. These games will be streamed on Meridix.

The Pecos Leagues Mountain Division will return in 2021 with games in the hometowns of all of the cities.

The Pecos League is aware of the rapidly changing developments regarding COVID-19. The Pecos League was originally scheduled to have a 64 game regular season start on 5/27/2020 and end on 8/1/2020 with 12 teams in 6 states. This will not happen.

The Pecos League has adjusted its season to a 48 game season with a start date to July 1, 2020 with an end date August 16, 2020 assuming it is deemed safe by local governments to play with fans at this time.

The other option the Pecos League may have to consider is to have four teams play in one location. No travel, no hotels and likely limited fan interaction would occur. But the players who need to play in the 2020 season would be able to play.

"There are 12 cities in the Pecos League and there are 12 different opinions, two of the cities have said no baseball in 2020. We will adjust and if possible play a 48 game season beginning July 1."

San Rafael Pacifics to join the Pecos League for 2020 Season

A new era in San Rafael Pacifics Hi

A new era in San Rafael Pacifics History commenced today with the annoucement of the San Rafael Pacifics joining the Pecos League for the 2020 season. The Pecos League has bought the San Rafael Pacifics and they will be joining the Pacific Division of the Pecos League and playing in the 2020 season and beyond. The Pacifics will maintain their office at 1201 2nd St. in San Rafael.

The Pacifics will join the Pacific Division of the Pecos League which is the largest league in Indepdendent Baseball. The Pacifics will play a 64 game schedule with 32 home games at Albert Park and be in a division with the (Martinez Sturgeon, Pittsburg Anchors, Monterey Amberjacks, Wasco Reserve and Bakersfield Train Robbers) The Pecos League has two divisions one in California and in the Mountain Time Zone including (Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas and Texas) The winners from each division play a championship series in the 2nd week of August. More than 386 players have begun their professional career in the Pecos League and have moved to higher level independent leagues. 39 players have signed MILB Affliated Contracts and 3 players have reached Major League Baseball.

The Pacifics franchise was launched by Centerfield Partners LLC of Dublin, California. In 2012 the San Rafael Pacifics were founded playing in the North American League were they were the Champions of the League. The Pacifics were founding members of the Pacific Association and played in the Pacific Association from 2013-2019 winning championships in 2014,2015,2018 and 2019

The major difference between the Pecos League and Pacific Association is the Pecos League has roster rules which leads to the majority of the Players between 24 or younger. Pecos League Roster Rules for the 2020 Season- Teams will carry 22 man active roster. Each player will be defined as a rookie or experienced on the teams roster. All players must be born or after January 1, 1994 with the exception of three veterans. Teams can have no than 11 players that are experienced. The other 11 players must be classified as rookies.

Pecos League moves to Pittsburg California

On Monday, the Pittsburg City Counc

On Monday, the Pittsburg City Council approved a field license agreement with the Pecos League of Professional Baseball that will bring the Pittsburg Anchors to the city for the 2020 season. The item was approved in the consent calendar.

According to the Staff Report, the agreement is for one baseball season through August 31, 2020 with a maximum of 25-games at a rate of $400 per game for a total of $10,000. The city had been working out the feasibility since October 2019.

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs has been in existence since 2011 and has grown from 6-teams to 12-teams including the City of Pittsburg and City of Martinez, with teams also in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, and Texas.

The league will be limited to lighting not to pass 11:00 pm and the league is responsible for staffing the facility during team games, events and other uses but not limited to security, concessions, guest services, coaches, players, and officials. They are also allowed to have promotional advertising up from May 15 until August 31 with City Manager approval.

The team will begin play at City Field beginning on June 2 and the Teams website can be viewed at http://www.PittsburgAnchors.com

The Pittsburg Team will play in the Pacific Division along with Martinez, Santa Cruz, Bakersfield, Wasco and Monterey. �We are excited to play the 2020 season in Pittsburg, I believe it will fit perfectly with the other five cities in the Pacific Division.. The people in Pittsburg have been extremely welcoming and City Field will instantly be one of the top parks in the Pacific Division.
