Cowboys Net Pupfish 7-4 in Pecos League ActionRev. Barry Abraham ZavahJune 12, 2012 The story of the Alpine Cowboys Tuesday night 7-4 victory over the visiting White Sands Pupfish at Kokernot Field was pitching, crowned by passing the hat among the fans to honor starter RHP Scott Hartlings 9 strike-outs and closer RHP Alfredo Caballero striking-out 3 in the 9th. Manager Ryan Stevens off-season efforts to acquire the best pitchers possible have shown results. After the game, Stevens was asked how it feels to be #1 in the Pecos League. Pretty good! Did you see how well our number 5 starter did against an excellent hitting club. They only arrived a few minutes before game time. We can expect a slugfest during the balance of the series. But theyll be looking at our #1, 2 and 3 starters the rest of the week. Alpines 7 runs consisted of a 3 run homer by DH Mike Marion in the third and single runs in the first, fourth, sixth and eighth innings, assisted by Pupfish wildness, hitting 3 Cowboys and walking 6, between starter RHP Jonathan Sintes and three relievers. The Cowboys continued to feature aggressive base running, the fans bearing witness to bases stolen by 2B Derrick Fox, SS Ben Ives, 3B Chris Davis and 1B Kevin Hennessey. However, when playing baseball by forcing the other team into errors, sooner or later the odds work against the runner, witness a double by speedy Chris Davis in the forth, moving to third on a passed ball and tagged out in a run down after bursting towards home in a squeeze play.Extra Innings: RHP Starter Scott Hartling was named Morrisons True Value Player of the Game SS Ben Ives extended his hitting streak to 21 games with a single in the third former Cowboy, Austin Newell patrols left field for the Pupfish LF and had 3 hits RHP Alfredo Caballero has made his presence known in each of the last 4 games, first showing the Trinidad Triggers and now the White Sands Pupfish that chasing a greased hog is easier than chasing the Cowboys closers end of game pitches Monday night in Santa Fe, the Pupfish beat the Triggers 19-18 with Santa Fe scoring 11 runs in the first and White Sands responding with 12 in the second although in all the other innings, it was a normal baseball game. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday @ 7:05 pm as the series against the Pupfish continues Kudos: to fellow fans and friends in the stands, Debbie Allison & Wayne Cline and Bob Young for helping me with the finer details of the sport of baseball while Mike Perry allows me to pinch hit for him. Also assisting was my beloved, Alicia Trillo, still a relative newcomer to baseball, but enjoys watching the Cowboys at Kokernot. Get your tickets and well see you at the games!
