The Garden City Wind (30-23) shut the door early on the Great Bend Boom (18-33), capturing a 14-2 victory on Sunday at Moffet Stadium.
With eight runs in the first three innings, the Garden City Wind left no doubt about the eventual outcome. A groundout by Beau Welborn in the first inning and a sacrifice fly by Matt Consigli and an RBI single by Joey Cecere during the second inning helped the Garden City Wind put some runs on the board early.
Willie Ethington racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Garden City Wind. He homered in the third inning and singled in the eighth inning.
The Garden City Wind got the win thanks in large part to Ryan Riordans dominant, nine-strikeout performance. Riordan allowed two earned runs, seven hits and one walk over nine innings.
Steven Wisser (1-4) took the loss for the Great Bend Boom. He allowed eight runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out one.
