A great effort by Vladimer Gomez lifted the White Sands Pupfish (13-22) to a 9-2 win in seven innings over the Alpine Cowboys (18-14) on Tuesday at Kokernot Field.
Gomez hit two home runs for the White Sands Pupfish. Gomez went 3-4 in the game with three RBIs and three runs scored. Gomez homered in the first and seventh innings.
Everything was working at the plate for the the White Sands Pupfish in the first. In the inning the White Sands Pupfish scored six runs. The White Sands Pupfish scored in the first on an RBI single by TJ Wharton, a two-run double by Joe Borowski, an RBI double by Zac Johnson, and a two-run home run by Gomez.
Cameron Powers picked up the win for the White Sands Pupfish. Powers allowed two earned runs, six hits and two walks while striking out five over seven innings of work.
Korie Vire was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked none, struck out four, and allowed two runs.
