The Garden City Wind (11-34) fell to the Las Vegas Train Robbers (20-23) in dramatic fashion Sunday evening with a final score of 7-6.
Lundgren also broke up Las Vegas starter Josh Ganus’s no-hitter with a solo homer to right center to start the sixth. His bat remained hot in the seventh inning as he hit a three-run double into center to take a 4-3 lead.
An exciting seventh continued with a double by Julio Rodriguez to bring Lundgren home. Garden City was up 5-3 going into the eight, but Las Vegas tied it up with two runs.
Chris Cruz took the lead back in the bottom of the eighth to put the Wind up 6-5.
Ganus was perfect through 4.2 innings before allowing his first baserunner. Ganus walked the newest member of the Wind, Rafael Ramirez, though he was picked off at first before he could take advantage of the free base.
Jordan Caillouet was responsible for the first five runs for the Train Robbers. He hit an RBI single to bring home the first run. In his next two at-bats, Caillouet sent the ball over the left field wall for two solo home runs.
After the Wind took the 5-3 lead, Caillouet batted in yet another run with an RBI single up the middle. The game was tied up after a single by RJ Rayborn, who scored Caillouet.
When they did manage to get on base, Garden City struggled to capitalize. In addition to Ramirez’s pickoff, Albert Gonzalez was caught stealing in the seventh. The Wind recorded their first stolen base in the eighth as Shea Bell swiped second.
Tyler Lundgren had a solid night going three-for-four.
Chip White finished his outing on the mound after three runs and seven hits in six innings. White issued two strikeouts and two walks.
Brandon Hudson was the first to come in from the bullpen. He had a quick inning on the mound, giving up just one hit.
Matt Eshleman took over for Hudson to begin the eighth. He walked two batters before Ethan Rosebeck entered the game. Eshleman and Rosebeck were both charged with a run in the inning.
Rosebeck (1-3) returned in the ninth, but gave up two more runs to take the loss. He allowed three total runs and five walks.
The Wind hit the road for seven games in Santa Fe against the Fuego and two in Trinidad, Colo., against the Triggers.
