July 4 2019 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the California City Whiptails 15-5 behind a 17-hit attack at Balsitis Park. High Desert built an early 4-1 lead before breaking the game open with seven runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth. California City answered with three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh but could not close the gap.
Oscar Larranaga went 3-for-5 with two walks and three RBI for the Yardbirds, while
Dillon Fahr added a 1-for-2 performance with three walks and three RBI.
Slayton Vaughan collected four hits and scored twice, and
Aiden Brook had two hits and two RBI.
Daniel Gardner had two hits and an RBI, while
Hector Morales and
Anthony Ward each added two hits. High Desert also received doubles from Fahr, Larranaga, Brook and Ward.
Colton Draney earned the win after allowing nine hits and five runs, three earned, in 6.2 innings. He walked three and struck out nine.
Austin Brown,
Anthony Ward and Larranaga combined to finish the game, with Ward striking out three in one scoreless inning and Larranaga recording two strikeouts in a perfect ninth.
Giovanni Prado provided California City’s biggest offensive blow with a two-run home run and two RBI, while Isaac Santos also drove in two runs. The Whiptails finished with 10 hits and committed two errors.
