June 5 2018 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the Monterey Amberjacks 11-2 behind a 13-hit attack at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Bakersfield scored twice in the first inning, added two runs in the third, broke the game open with four runs in the sixth and added insurance in the seventh and eighth innings. Monterey scored one run in the second and one in the fifth while finishing with seven hits.
Shane Sharkey led Bakersfield with three hits in four at-bats, scoring three runs and driving in two.
Sonny Cortez scored twice and had two RBI, while
Jesse Baker added two RBI and
Nick Vehlewald and
Tobias Moreno each drove in a run.
Steve Pascaul and Moreno collected two hits apiece for the Train Robbers.
Rob Lain earned the win for Bakersfield after allowing five hits and two runs in six innings. He walked none and struck out four while allowing one earned run. John Chalupa worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts, and Zach Williams finished with 1 1/3 scoreless innings and three strikeouts. Monterey starter
