May 27 2011 The Alpine Cowboys defeated the Ruidoso Osos 13-3 at Kokernot Field. Alpine collected 19 hits and scored six runs in the second inning and six more in the sixth to pull away. Ruidoso finished with six hits and scored once in the sixth and twice in the seventh.
Javier Arrieta led Alpine with four hits in five at-bats including two doubles and two RBIs.
Kyle Wells added three hits and one RBI while
Mike Marion went 2-for-4 with three runs scored two RBIs and a home run.
Tyler Hicks and
Eric Garcia each drove in one run and
James Kono added two RBIs.
Scott Shimek earned the win for Alpine after allowing six hits and three runs over seven innings with four strikeouts.
Cody Jones worked a scoreless eighth inning with two strikeouts and
Brian Hobbs followed with a scoreless ninth and two strikeouts. Ruidoso starter
Alan Gatz took the loss after five innings in which he allowed 12 hits and seven runs with five strikeouts.
Anthony Phillips drove in both of Ruidoso's recorded RBIs while
Drew Peterson had two hits and
Jerome Dunning added a double. Alpine's offense held its advantage after the second-inning surge and completed the 13-3 victory.
