7/18/2026-Bakersfield second baseman Maxim Fullerton used a vintage 1940 baseball glove in the ninth inning of the Train Robbers 8-3 win over the Austin Weirdos Friday night July 17th.

The glove is a year younger than Bakersfield's Sam Lynn Ballpark which opened in 1941.

The dark brown leather glove is a Rawlings Ken Keltner model, the exact same style glove third baseman Keltner, of the Cleveland Indians, used to rob Joe DiMaggio twice on great plays to end the Yankee Clipper's legendary 56-game hitting streak in 1941.

"Maxim appreciates baseball history and asked if he could use the Keltner glove in a game," said Bakersfield manager Bill Rogan, who owns the glove. "I told him if we had a good sized lead he could use it."

Fullerton was able to make a play with the glove when he reached out and stabbed a short blooper to right field on a bounce and gunned a runner out at home plate to end the game.

"I wanted to honor the game by using the glove and I'm glad I was able to make a play with it," Fullerton said after the win. "It was fun but I'll go back to using my modern glove tomorrow."

"Who knows the last time someone used the Keltner glove in a game," Rogan said. "I'm happy it came out of retirement for an inning and Maxim made a nice play with it."
