8/6/2025-The Tucson Saguaros took an early lead and went on to stretch it into an 11-5 win over the Garden City Wind Wednesday night in the opening game of the Pecos League's Mountain Division championship series at Clint Lightner Field in Kansas.
The Saguaros ran out to a 6-0 lead, featuring four runs in the second inning capped by a Gavy Perez Torres two-run homer, before Adam Purdys three-run roundtripper put Garden City on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Singles by Rob Morosetti and Pierce Khan produced runs one inning later to bring the Wind to within a score of tying the game until the top of the sixth, when the Saguaros Marquise Wood singled, stole second and took third on an errant throw by catcher Dominic Enbody before motoring home on a Jacob Elizondo single to give Tucson a 7-5 advantage. The Cacti posted four more runs in the top of the eighth as Anthony Manisero contributed an RBI single to take an 11-5 lead and close the night's scoring.
Elizondo finished the night with four hits and three RBIs while Manisero, Mike Whalen and starting pither Miles Longoria each had a pair of safeties for Tucson. Jacob Talamante led Garden City with three hits and Morosetti and Khan chipped in with two hits apiece. Longoria took the pitching win as Ian Lanik held the Wind scoreless over the final two frames.Cutter Smith was tagged with the loss for Garden City. The two teams will meet Thursday night for Game 2. The winner of the best-of-3 series will take on the San Rafael Pacifics for the Pecos League title beginning this weekend.
