June 29 2024 The Alpine Cowboys defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 16-3, collecting 17 hits while holding Santa Fe to six hits. Alpine broke through with six runs in the third inning, added one in the fourth and one in the fifth, then put the game out of reach with six runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Santa Fe scored once in the first and twice in the third.
Matteo Avallone led Alpine with two hits and six RBI.
Taylor Darden and
James Prockish each went 4-for-6 with three RBI, while
Trevor Tripoli scored three runs and drove in three.
Drake Angeron had two hits, two runs and two RBI, and
Josh Rego went 3-for-5 with three runs. Alpines listed home runs included two by Avallone and one each by Angeron, Darden, Prockish,
Drew Bayard and
Brayde Hirai.
Hirai earned the win after allowing six hits and three earned runs over seven innings. He walked one and struck out 10 while throwing 87 pitches, including 58 strikes. Hirai also contributed two hits, four runs and one RBI at the plate.
Greg Salazar took the loss for Santa Fe after surrendering 15 hits and 14 earned runs in 6 1/3 innings, with two walks and five strikeouts.
Emmanuel Benavidez worked the final 1 1/3 innings and was charged with seven earned runs on six hits and three walks.
