This data has updated after the 2023 season.Below is a report that shows all time number of home games with an average of runs per game. This report is driven by five factors:
Altitude-the number one driving force in runs scored and high ERAs.
Size of Ballpark-contributes to more home runs that wouldn't be home runs in conventional ballparks.
Quality of pitching staff-teams with historically good pitching staffs have lower era.
Lights/Visibility-places that have shadows and poor lighting are obviously harder to have higher run scores.
Proximity to the Pacific Ocean-Breeze from the Ocean.
There is no place in the Pecos League or the World that can top the combination of Fort Marcy Park home of the Santa Fe Fuego.Fort Marcy Park has allowed 9145 runs in 12 years while hosting 410 games. The combined average runs per game is 22.30, which is up from 22.15 at the end of the 2022 season.A combination of 7000 feet elevation in Santa Fe with a short fence and good visibility turns it into the ultimate hitters park where no lead is safe.
Also Surprisingly to this report is the high number of runs allowed by Vallejo (21.52). Their Ballpark is the coldest in the league with temperatures dropping below 50 degrees in the 8th and 9th innings. This number can be attributed to their below average pitching staff.
Lancaster's Hangar and Adelanto Stadium were always known as launching pads. Both in the Cal League and the Pecos League that trend has been consistant.Ultimately that is why MILB left both cities. The Hangar averaged 21.41 runs per game in its lone Pecos League Season of 2023.
What is the leagues biggest graveyard?By far is was Santa Cruz's Harvey West Park at a little over 10 combined runs per game. The Pecos League is no longer in Santa Cruz as the Seaweed moved to Vallejo. One of the reason for the low run totals is the high amount of 7 inning games that were forced to be played there due to home and home doubleheaders with Monterey. It had terrible visibilty and innings 1-4 batters had to contend with 4 shadows that landed in between the pitcher and the hitter. The infield grass was as thick as out of bounds at a golf fairway. The white building behind center field also helped the ball blend in so the hitter had problems. There were almost no home runs hit in this grave yard with 36 foot elevation. The current from the ocean breeze blew direct in from Center field making Santa Cruz a graveyard. The Seaweed did not have one of the top pitching staffs either year the Pecos League played at Harvey West but it didn't matter as long as they played at home.
