July 4 2023 The Monterey Amberjacks defeated the Vallejo Seaweed 9-2 behind a 15-hit attack at Sollectio Park. Monterey scored in five innings, building a 2-0 lead in the second, adding two runs in the third and one in the fourth before scoring twice in both the sixth and seventh innings. Vallejo avoided a shutout with two runs in the ninth.
Ryan Diaz led Monterey with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored.
Gabriel Murillo went 2-for-5 with two RBI and hit a home run, while
Anthony Ward added two hits, one RBI and one run.
Dominic Scotti also had two hits, and
Joshua Rodriguez contributed a double. Monterey finished with 15 hits and eight RBI.
Tristan Cavazos earned the win for Monterey with eight shutout innings, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out 10.
Dominic Scotti pitched the ninth, allowing two runs on three hits with one strikeout.
Noah Fiso took the loss for Vallejo after allowing five earned runs on five hits in four innings.
Dandre Gaines accounted for both Vallejo runs with a home run and two RBI. The Seaweed managed four hits overall, while Monterey held Vallejo scoreless through the first eight innings.
