5/11/2014-Opening day is here for the Pecos League's 2014 season which will mark the 4th year.
Here are the first series matchups and opening day starters
May 12th Del Rio Texas
Alpine Texas at Las Vegas Train Robbers
The Pecos League returns to Del Rio for the first time since 2011.
Josh Kruse will start the season for the Alpine Cowboys against Mark Anderson.
DJ Stinsman's Las Vegas Train Robbers have held Spring Training in Alamogordo and will be tested right away against the Alpine Cowboys.
Ryan Stevens is in his fifth year as the teams manager and he believes this is the best Cowboys Team he has had yet.
The two teams will play May 13th in Del Rio before making the short 200 mile drive up Highway 90 to Alpine. The Cowboys Home opener is May 15th and the two teams will play four games in Alpine for a total of a six game series.
May 14th Alamogordo, New Mexico
Roswell Invaders at White Sands Pupfish
Roswells title defense begins in Alamogordo when they send Tyler Garkow to the mound against Matthew Cook for the Pupfish. The Invaders have held Spring Training in Alamogordo for the last two years and completed dominated the Pupfish all three years in the Pecos League. In 2013 the Invaders beat the Pupfish 14 of the 16 times they met. Both teams have new coaches Darrell Carrillo for White Sands and Rob Warnock for Roswell. The two team meet for a day night doubleheader on the 15th before heading the short 100 miles North up Highway 70 to Roswell. Roswells home opener in May 16th.
May 14th Raton, New Mexico
Trinidad Triggers at Raton Osos
This year there will not be a TV Show following the Triggers but the excitement is just as high as the Triggers are the clear favorites in the Northern Division. The Triggers are sending Kevin McGovern to the mound as their opening day starter. The Osos are sending Phil Richmond to the mound. In 2013 the Triggers beat the Osos 15 out of their 16 meetings. The two teams cross the Raton Pass and State Line to alternate home games for a four game series to open the season.
May 14th Santa Fe, New Mexico
Taos Blizzard at Santa Fe Fuego
Fuego Fever is alive in Santa Fe when they send Alex Teal to the mound against Richie Anderson and the Taos Blizzard. This is the first year of Taos being a full time team as they operated as a travel team in 2013. The Blizzard are lead by former Triggers great Chris Tuttle as their manager. Bill Moore is in his third year and has his best Fuego team yet. The Fuego are predicted to contend with Trinidad for the Northern Division Title. The two teams play a split four game series with the first two games at Santa Fe then the last two games in Taos beginning Friday Night.
May 14th
Bisbee, Arizona
Douglas Diablos at Bisbee Blue
The Pecos League will enter the State of Arizona and the Pacific Time Zone for the first time as the Douglas Diablos visit Warren Ballpark and the Bisbee Blue. The two league expansion teams have brand new managers in Sean Repay with Bisbee and Mike Greene in Douglas. Former Toronto Blue Jays Farmhand Nelson Jerez will start for Douglas and Matt Horan will get the nod for Bisbee. The teams play an alternating home and home schedule being 24 miles apart. Pecos League Pitcher of the Year Edison Alvarez will get the start for Douglas on May 15th in the Diablos Home Opener.
