After an off-season in which the Pecos League schedule saw numerous changes as teams came and went in the league, the season is finally set, with eight teams for 2013 and regular-season games running from May 14 to July 24.
After spring training in early May, four teams will play exhibition games against American Association teams El Paso and Amarillo.
Roswell will open up the exhibition season May 10 at Cohen Park in El Paso, then May 11, White Sands faces the DIablos in El Paso.
May 12, Las Vegas travels to Amarillo to face the Sox, then Alpine wraps up the exhibition season May 13 in El Paso.
The regular season kicks off with two games May 14, with the Cowboys traveling to White Sands and the Invaders hosting the Train Robbers. After that, it’s a busy season, with all eight teams playing daily through the rest of May and June (no days off) and from July 7 through 24.
The only break the players will get is the first week in July, when only July 3-4 will feature all eight teams in action, and the All Star game will take place July 6 in Santa Fe.
Playoffs will begin right after the season ends, with the champion game set for the end of July.
The tight schedule gives players moving up in the league more time to advance to higher level baseball.
