8/20/2012-The final 2013 season schedule will be released sooner than later this year with two new teams joining the Pecos League. The final release date should be on or before November 15, 2012. The league continues to improve on and off the field every year, and 2013 will be no different. Having eight teams in the league with two divisions makes scheduling a breeze as compared to six teams which always has problems. changes to the schedule will be as follows:
  • Spring Training will begin May 5-May 8 depending on the teams
  • The regular season will begin May 15th which gives teams an extra week to sign pitchers and finalize their rosters. The extra week makes a big difference as players become available. This cuts down on the number of early transactions that some teams went through in 2011 and 2012.
  • The last day of regular season will be July 27. This allows playoffs to start July 29 and the Championship Series could be completed as earlier as August 2. This gives players a chance to finish the season in higher leagues as around 29 players did in 2011 and around 34 players are doing now in 2012.
  • There will only be 4 off days. In 2012 the Santa Fe Fuego had 15 off days and played 70 games.
  • The league will have a balanced schedule of opponents. All teams from the Northern Division will play all teams in the Southern Divison 32 times (8 home and 8 road in 4 games series). Teams within their division will play one team 16 times, one team 12 times and one team 10 times. All series except two will be four game series.
  • The league will not have a balanced schedule of home and away games. The base schedule of 35 home games and 35 road games will stay close to true for Alpine and Trinidad but could vary for Pueblo West, Las Cruces, Roswell and Santa Fe depending on stadium capacity and projected attendence. Pueblo West has requested not to have a full schedule inaugural year. Las Cruces also limits the number of consecutive games that can be at Apodoca Park. Santa Fe must leave open dates for AABC to play as well.
  • On the last day of a series before either team has to travel out of division games will be moved up. The league will use these dates as dates for kids to attend games, as Alamogordo has mastered so well over the last two years. When Pueblo West plays Alpine the 667 mile journey will be the longest ever in Pecos League history. The last game of each series that isn't followed by an off day will start at 1 PM Mountain Time or Earlier.
  • The 7th and 8th teams are still uncertain. There are up to seven cities that want in the Pecos League for 2013 but only one slot remains. The final alignment of divisions could only be determined after final teams are set.
  • The All Star Game will remain July 8th. Location is TBD, due to distances the only teams with possiblity of All Star Game are Santa Fe, Roswell, Alamogordo and Las Cruces.
