3/26/2017-The Houston Apollos played a Spring Training Game against the Toros de Tijuana from the Mexican Baseball League in Tucson Arizona at Kino Field #4.

The Apollos featured the following independent league players:
  • Tucson Saguaros-Ryan Retz
  • Bakersfield Train Robbers-Eric Schnieder and Nick Vehlewald
  • Roswell Invaders-Ethan Rosebeck, Bobby Webb, Bryan Kloppe and Kyle Peralta
  • California City Whiptails Scott Stetson and Tomas Gutierrez
  • Shaun Cooper- Gary Southshore Railcats
  • Kellen Marruffo-Winnipeg Goldeyes
The Toros featured a robust lineup that had defeated several MLB affliated teams over the last week in Spring Training Games.
  • Former Tampa Bay Rays infield Jorge Cantu-World Baseball Classic Mexico
  • Former Seattle MAriners Infielder-Alexi Liddi-World Baseball Classic Italy
  • Former AAA Hitter Dustin Martin- Ethan Rosebeck held the Toros to 5 runs over 4 innings of work. His brother Liam pitched the scoreless 8th. The Toros ended the game with 14-1 win breaking the game open in the 5-6-7 innings.

    Shaun Cooper had multiple hits and key defensive plays for the Apollos including hitting two foul home runs. Jorge Cantu had a baseballs loaded triple for Tijuana in the 5th breaking the game completely open. The Apollos made four errors but stayed in the game for the first half. The powerful Tijuana bullpen overmatched Apollo hitters and shut them down for the majority of the game.

    Scott Stetson tripled and scored on a Eric Schneider RBI groundout in the 6th. The two teams will meet tonight at the conclusion of the blink 182 concert being held in Kino Stadium.
