The White Sands Pupfish best the Las Cruces Vaqueros in shootout 15-8

The bats were busy at Griggs Park on Saturday, and when the dust cleared the White Sands Pupfish (11-7) had a 15-8 win over the Las Cruces Vaqueros (4-13).

The teams totaled 30 hits in the game.

The White Sands Pupfish turned the win into a rout with six runs in the fifth. The White Sands Pupfish scored in the fifth on an RBI single by Michael Brandi, an RBI double by Brandon Burkes, a two-run triple by Wesley Wallace, an RBI triple by Aaron Nardone, and an error.

Alvin Beltre put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the White Sands Pupfish.

Derek Meyer recorded his second win of the year for the White Sands Pupfish. He allowed four runs over five innings. He struck out none, walked three and surrendered six hits.

Michael Ormseth ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just four innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed two runs.

The White Sands Pupfish easily handled the Las Cruces Vaqueros pitching as seven hitters combined for 14 hits, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored.
