12/16/2010--Houston, Tx The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs will go with 6 teams for the 2011 season. After months of proposals, meetings and visits to numerous cities six teams is best. The level of play will also increase do to fewer number of jobs.

The two final teams had different issues and the Pecos League will look to lay a solid foundation in the 2011 season.
  • The Bisbee Copperkings owner was uncomfortable with the economy and wants to wait until 2012 to enter the Copperkings. He wanted to play majority of games at home.
  • The Del Rio Aviators were evicted from their stadium due to Babe Ruth Baseball protesting to the city after their team was announced
The Pecos League received offers to go to 12 other cities, none made sense for the 2011 season.

Clovis coach John Harris says "6 teams will have stronger competition and a better overall league"

White Sands Coach Keith Essary says "No one wanted to drive to Del Rio anyways"

Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn says "Warren Ballpark in Bisbee would have been a gem for the Pecos League and fit perfectly. Dealing with regulations of state of Arizona would have been a hassle. The Arizona economy is uncertain and small Bisbee population would have made things questionable. Del Rio is a case of Youth vs Pro Team, and Youth wins every time. The support for baseball is in Del Rio." An Additional Two Travel Teams would have added jobs but depleted the talent pool and hurt the overall complexion of the league. Having all of the teams close together helps keep our costs down in a very tight New Mexico Economy.
